All good copy writers understand the importance of repetition. They present the same idea with a variety of concepts hoping one of them will grab your attention.

By definition, subliminal messages are images or words which are being flashed onto a screen so quickly that your mind doesn't consciously register them, while on the subconscious level a seed has been planted that may grow into a complete thought or action - at least for some people.

Advertising copy whether in video, audio or print form, is manipulating the mind of the observer and could even be considered a form of hypnotic marketing via subliminal messages. A quick flash of an idea that's presented in various word groupings, whose purpose is to entice you to focus and take action on a particular product or service without recognition of such advertising in the conscious mind. Granted, you are aware that you are witnessing a commercial, but you are not focused on the attempt they are making to get your business. That message is filtering into your subconscious as you view, listen to or read the material.

I propose that we think of it this way: a subliminal message is simply artful manipulation of a person's mind to think the thoughts you want them to think, without them realizing that you caused them to think those thoughts.

Sounds a little deceitful, doesn't it?

I'll admit that at first I thought of it as being deceitful also, which is what inspired me to write this article. Some of us hit a brick wall whenever we try to write our own ads or promote our own businesses.

How do we break through the brick wall?

By facing reality...

The reality is this. An ad, whether subliminal or straightforward, does NOT force a person into thought or action.

You can't force someone to think about something, you can only encourage them to entertain the idea(s) you are presenting. If they have no need or interest in the subject of your ad, then they won't pay much, if any, attention to your idea or proposal.

You know the old saying - you can lead a horse to water but ....

Parents are particularly and sometimes painfully aware of this fact. Think about how often a parent has to artfully manipulate the mind of their child in order to get the desired action or end result.

And that leads us to another reality...

We respond positively to things that interest us - even advertisements - on an emotional level.

It's human nature to have a positive reaction to things that interest you or solve a problem for you. The reaction may only be the idea that you will get the desired object one day soon. Or the reaction may be "Bingo! That's what I need!" and you go after it immediately, which is the best scenario for copy writers and advertisers.

A person reacts to an offer when the timing is right for them - Not before. (The only exception to this would apply to children whose reactions are anything but timely and logical - but that's a different story and this article is referring to adults.)

So, if people react to offers or proposals when the time is right, how do you decide when the time is right? You don't! They do!

The right time for you to present yourself is now - every day - ALL of the time! You want to be among the options under consideration when the time is right for someone to make a choice concerning a product or service that you offer. After all, they'll choose someone - why shouldn't it be you?

Our internet community is global, and new participants come online daily.

Can you imagine how many people need to know about YOU?

YOUR product?

YOUR service?

I challenge you today, to resolve to promote your products and services with a new zeal! Remember, you are simply presenting others with a possible solution to a problem, or you're offering them something they really, really want.

And that's a GOOD Thing!

Valuable content is imperative if your intention is to have a popular website or blog. No matter what line of work you're in or what type of service / product you provide, you can offer an expertise to the subject that will help people become more knowledgable and therefore see the need - which is what we want - paying customers. That's the bottom line. As a Certified Master of Written English, I can provide topic specific valuable content and articles for your website, your blog, or your newsletter.
